Spring 2014 Cheeks - Pretty in Pink

Pink can be bright and vibrant or soft and subtle--there's a shade to suit every skin tone. Now that spring is finally here, it's the perfect time to explore some of the fabulous pink cheek colors out there to help add a warm flush to our post-winter, corpse-like complexions!

Believe it or not, I went through a period of time as a kid when I adamantly hated the color pink. HATED! I remember feeling as though people would assume I wanted pink because I was a girly-girl when in fact certain shades of green/aqua had always been my favorite. Silly gender stereotypes trying to bring me down! I wanted to prove I was strong and independent despite being girly and somehow I got the idea that boycotting the color pink was a good way of accomplishing--good luck psychoanalyzing 10 year old me ;) Time went on and I got over it eventually (thank goodness!), realizing I actually loved the color pink, especially in terms of cosmetics. Long story short, as a teen pink became one of my favorite lip and cheek colors and the rest is history. Sometimes I look back on all of this and laugh at myself (as I regularly do). I have no idea why I cling to some of the notions that pop into my head, but I'm thankful this one didn't stick!

Spring 2014 Pink Blush Details & Reviews

Anna Sui Rose Cheek Color #303

Product Type - pressed powder blush
Shade - multi-dimensional cool pink with slight blue undertone
Finish - shimmer
On the Cheek - well-pigmented, shimmery on cheek
Price - $36 (.21 oz)
My Thoughts - This blush is absolutely gorgeous to look at in its exquisitely detailed compact. I absolutely adore products with printed patterns on them--big weakness for me! The color itself is quite pretty and unique once the different shades are swirled together. This is shimmery once applied, so keep that in mind.

DHC Face Color Palette EX PE02 Pearly Pink

Product Type - pressed blush with complementary highlighter (blush only swatched above)
Shade - bright pink (skews a bit warm in swatch, a bit cooler in person)
Finish - satin
On the Cheek - well-pigmented, soft and finely milled
Price - $20 (.17 oz)
Where to Buy - DHCcare.com
My Thoughts - The DHC Face Color Palettes have the most lovely textures and the complementary highlighters work very well with the blushes. This is a great pink blush overall and super convenient if you're looking for a cheek/highlighter duo you can throw in your purse.

DHC Face Color Palette EX RD04 Radiant Ruby

Product Type - pressed blush with complementary highlighter (blush only swatched above)
Shade - slightly warm pink
Finish - satin
On the Cheek - well-pigmented, buttery texture
Price - $20 (.17 oz)
Where to Buy - DHCcare.com
My Thoughts - This is a super complementary color with a lovely built-in higlighter. Great for someone looking for a slightly warm, but still vibrant blush. For additional thoughts read above on first DHC palette reviewed.

DHC Face Color Palette EX RS03 Glowing Rose

Product Type - pressed blush with complementary highlighter (blush only swatched above)
Shade - moderately deep pink (slightly less coral-toned and more plum-toned in person)
Finish - satin
On the Cheek - well-pigmented, buttery texture
Price - $20 (.17 oz)
Where to Buy - DHCcare.com
My Thoughts - This is a great pink blush for someone looking for a slightly deeper, but still vibrant shade. For additional thoughts read above on first DHC palette reviewed.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Diffused Heat Review

Product Type - pressed blush infused with Ambient Lighting Powder
Shade - warm, slightly salmon pink
Finish - moderately shimmery
On the Cheek - great pigmented, super finely milled, shimmery is less noticeable on cheeks, very natural glow
Price - $35 (.15 oz)
Where to Buy - HourglassCosmetics.com
My Thoughts - I'm a big fan of the Ambient Lighting Powders so these blushes are perfection to me. They are well-pigmented, finely milled and blur imperfections while imparting a natural, blendable flush.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Ethereal Glow Review

Product Type - pressed blush infused with Ambient Lighting Powder
Shade - super light, cool pink
Finish - satin
On the Cheek - too light for medium to deep complexions, blurs imperfections, very finely milled
Price - $35 (.15 oz)
Where to Buy - HourglassCosmetics.com
My Thoughts - I love everything about this shade except for the fact it does not show up on my complexion. If you're fair this is a must, but if you're medium or deeper this will not show up on you or may appear a tad ashy. I wish it was just a bit of a more vibrant pink because I love the effect of the Ambient Lighting Powder it's infused with. Fair girls, this is for you!

Kevyn Aucoin Creamy Glow Duo #2 Review

Product Type - cream combo blush/lip colors (only pink shade on left swatched above)
Shade - moderately deep pink
Finish - slightly dewy (not shiny)
On the Cheek - creamy formula, blends well into skin or foundation
Price - $28 (.16 oz)
Where to Buy - Barneys.com BergdorfGoodman.com
My Thoughts - This is such a fantastic product! It applies beautifully on the cheek and looks phenomenal when blended into foundation then a light application of foundation is dabbed over it. This can also be used on lips. It is long-wearing and will stain bare skin slightly. Amazing! I used this in my recent Mean Girls inspired Beauty Breakdown look the other day.

Are you wearing pink on your cheeks this spring? Which of the cheek products above have tickled your fancy?

  1. I love all the roses on the Anna Sui cheek colour. The downside about having products that look pretty is it makes it so much harder to actually use them. :)

    1. It's so true! A little piece of me dies every time I swirl a brush around ... but it's also stunning on the cheek! Catch-22 ;)
