Limited Edition MAC Magnetic Nude Swatches and Review - Platinum Love, A Natural Flirt, Fairly Precious, Autoerotique

Purchased By Me

You guys know I'm a long-time MAC fan. Despite the fact that I really like color, I don't mind good nudes now and again as well--though I'm admittedly picky about nude shades because of my coloring. While I may have been a bit skeptical of this collection when I first heard about it, I'm really happy I did my research and purchased when it launched! I have 4 products from the Magnetic Nude collection to share with you today. I've been playing with them for the last week and have some thoughts on each.

MAC Magnetic Nude Profile

MAC's Magnetic Nude limited edition collection is a composed of a variety of products in nude shades varying from light to moderately dark. The products that called to me most--the shadows, skinfinish and blush--all have the extra dimension formula. I often find the extra dimension formula can be hit or miss, so I highly recommend playing with them first or doing some online research prior to purchasing if you're not 100% sold on extra dimensions in general.

I shared a few instagram shots of looks I created using MAC Magnetic Nude products over the last week. You can see them HERE and HERE

Where to Buy

As of the time of this post, all the products I purchased are still available on MAC's site

MAC Magnetic Nude Extra Dimension Shadows - Platinum Love, A Natural Flirt

Product Type

These are eyeshadows made with MAC's extra dimension formula.

Shades

I purchased both Platinum Love and A Natural Flirt.

MAC Platinum Love - reflective platinum

L to R - Platinum Love, A Natural Flirt

On the Eye

Extra Dimension shadows are always hit or miss to me. I really like both of these, but I want to share my thoughts on these as they are not similar texture-wise to other MAC shadows in my opinion. These have a thinner yet still somewhat soft and buttery formula. They apply semi-sheer and can be built up to some degree. They absolutely work best over a good primer or foiled in my opinion if you want to apply them all over the lid rather than just as highlighters in the inner corners. These are both fairly reflective and rather than providing one smooth layer, they create a soft shimmery effect. It's not chunky or uneven by any means and again the formula itself is very light.

Price

These retail for $19.50 each

MAC Magnetic Nude Autoerotique Extra Dimension Blush

Product Type

This is a blush in the extra dimension formula with what I would call a nearly satin finish.

Shade

I purchased Autoerotique.

On the Cheek

This has a super smooth formula that's extremely lightweight. While it can be built up well and has pretty good pigmentation, I did find that some of my blush brushes could not seem to pick much product up--both synthetic and natural. I'm not sure why, but it took a little trial and error to find a brush that picked up enough to apply a noticeable amount on my cheeks. That being said, the formula itself is nice to wear. If you have a medium complexion like me, you may find this gives you a hint of a blush rather than full flush unless you use a slightly heavier hand--not uncommon for me with many blushes. I find the mostly satin finish of this to be really flattering. Really, really glad I grabbed this!

This retails for $25

MAC Magnetic Nude Fairly Precious Extra Dimension Skinfinish

Product Type

This is a skinfinish (highlighter) in the extra dimension formula with fairly reflective qualities.

Shade

I purchased this in Fairly Precious.

On the Face

This is a really well-pigmented highlighter with a lot of reflective shimmer. If you prefer a more subtle highlighter, you could try applying this with a lighter hand and probably get something closer to what you like. Keep in mind that this is simply pretty shimmery even when applied with a light hand. It's not as fine of a shimmer as Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders, but it is not chunky or flaky. I think this is absolutely gorgeous on medium complexions and given its warm tone, would be extremely flattering in the summer especially. I've been wearing this for about the last week and I am loving it, especially paired with Autoerotique. Worth it to me if you like this formula!

This retails for $30

Final Thoughts

I really like all 4 of the products I grabbed from this collection. I can definitely see myself using all of them fairly frequently or as frequently as a collection my size will allow. I think with the shadows I will most likely wear both as highlighters since I have better all-over lid shades that are similar. I think A Natural Flirt will look really lovely patted over a comparable light beige to give it a little extra something. I love the shade of Autoerotique and strongly suggest grabbing it. I also love Fairly Precious and think it's another stand-out product worth investing in if you like its reflective finish and warm shade. All in all, I'm happy with my selections. I do recommend either researching prior to buying or playing with them in-store prior to purchasing unless you know you love the extra dimension formula, but there are definitely some worthwhile products in this collection in my opinion!

I've had a few people ask me why I didn't purchase any of the lipsticks given how much of a lipstick junkie I am. I honestly don't wear nude lipsticks very often and when I do I'm super picky about the shades because my complexion is a bit odd and many nudes don't look good with my coloring--especially since I only like lighter nude lipstick shades when I buy/wear them. I know a lot of people have enjoyed the nude lipsticks in this collection and I recommend checking out other bloggers that have swatched them.

What do you think? Will you grab anything from this collection before they sell out?
