Wet n Wild Profile

Wet n Wild is a long-time popular drugstore brand that produces on-trend shades and products ranging from lips to eyes; face to nails. I think you would be hard-pressed to find someone who didn't begin their makeup journey with this brand and Wet n Wild continues to be a favorite for many--especially those looking for cruelty-free, drugstore beauty alternatives.

I have Wet n Wild's versions of a shadow pencil and eye liner marker to share with you! I am constantly on the hunt for good versions of both and have more than a few in my personal collection. Both products by Wet n Wild are cruelty-free and budget-friendly.

Product Type

This is a liquid liner in marker form with a pointed felt tip. Nowhere does it state this product is waterproof, but Wet n Wild does state it is meant to be long-wearing and fast-drying. The felt tip is meant to give you the flexibility to create thin or bold lines. 

Shade

This comes in 2 shades--blackest black and dark brown. Today I am reviewing blackest black, which is a deep black with a semi-matte finish.

As you can see, there is some variation in the width of the lines you can create with this liner.

On the Eye

While this is not described as waterproof on Wet n Wild's site, it is long-wearing. In fact, I found it challenging to remove even with makeup remover and while swatching it stained my arm (even after removal with waterproof removal). If you have super oily lids or live in a very hot climate, you can extend the wear of your liners by setting them with a bit of shadow over them (just pat a comparable shade of shadow over your liner). While I don't think you'll have a huge issue with this liner in most cases (I don't have oily lids and it's actually very dry here at the moment so that obviously affected my experience), you can try this tip if you wish to extend it's already long wear or find it doesn't quite hit the mark for you.

My Thoughts

Eyeliners are one of those products where I find experience can drastically vary from person to person based on a number of factors--skin type, climate, application, etc. Ironically, Wet n Wild has always made some of my favorite drugstore liners. I personally think this is a great eyeliner marker and it is comparable if not better than a handful of high-end ones I've tested and disliked over the last year--granted I am picky. I think that especially for the price this is absolutely worth a shot. The felt tip is not incredibly hard like others I've tried that practically cut you during application. It does, however, lose some of its sharp point with use--as do almost all the ones I've tried. I would like to note that on the inside of the cap there is a lip that I found easy to catch the tip of the liner on. Be mindful of this as you shut it to avoid smashing the tip, especially if you prefer a super sharp line like I do.

Product Type

This is a cream shadow pencil meant to be easily blendable and long-lasting.

Shade

Electro is a metallic, slightly silver-tinged medium blue

On the Eyes

This pencil glided on beautifully, but it was not soft to the point where I smashed the tip during application like some other shadow pencils I've worked with. The formula itself is fairly pigmented, yet somehow thin at the same time. It does not set quite as fast as other shadow pencils I've worked with and it can be blended out to a degree, but because the formula is fairly thin, blending it out tends to give you a light wash of color rather than pigmented layer. I do recommend blending immediately after application if you intend to do so as this does tend to adhere a bit more to the area you initially apply it to. I did find that this ever so slightly stained my bare skin, but I never wear products such as this without something under them for normal wear (only swatching). I suggest setting this with shadow on top of it to extend its wear. It is not tacky initially like many shadow pencils I have used, which may or may not be something you prefer.

My Thoughts

This is a really interesting shadow pencil compared to the stacks I've tried over the years--I tend to use them under shadows fairly frequently. I like that the formula is thinner and more light-weight as I find some shadow pencils can be overly heavy. This does not tug as much as some super fast-setting shadow pencils. Personally, I would recommend this for use as a base underneath powder shadows. Keep in mind, blending it out may take a little trial and error because of its thin formula. I often find that using small paddle brushes can be a better way to evenly apply shadow pencils, but do what works for you. For the price, I think these are definitely worth experimenting with!
