New York Color HD Trio Eye Shadow Swatches & Review
Product Type
These are shadow trios that are meant to include 1 highlight color, 1 all-over lid color, and 1 crease color.
Shades
Central Park Plums (785)
West Vintage (789)
Application
Central Park Plums - These shades offered moderate pigmentation, though the lightest shade (which is meant as a highlighter) had the least payoff. The darkest shade (meant to be a crease color) was slightly powdery, but not chalky. These offer a reasonable wash of color.
Wet Vintage - These shades were slightly more pigmented than Central Park Plums. The highlight color offered a sparkly wash of color, while the 2 deeper pigmented shades offered more payoff. None of these shades were particularly chalky, though the purple was slightly powdery.
Price
Each trio retails for $2.99

My Thoughts
For the price, I'm actually pretty impressed with these trios! While you won't achieve the same pigmentation you might with high-end products, these have better texture and pigmentation than many of the comparable drugstore shadows I've swatched/reviewed. I also think these are some of the most well thought out drugstore trios I've seen and it's nice that New York Color actually put complementary colors in each. I think those that prefer drugstore products or those just starting out will find these to be a great buy!
New York Color Applelicious Glossy Lip Balm Swatches & Review

These are glossy tinted balms. Each has an apple-shaped core that is so adorable!

Apple Plum Pie (359) |
Application
- Chocolate Apple (352) - slight wash of brown-red
- Apple Blossom (354) - natural glossy wash (not much tint)
- Big Apple Red (356) - slight wash of warm red
- Apple Plum Pie (359) - slight wash of purple-leaning red
These colors are not meant to be opaque, but all but Apple Blossom provided a slight tint to my lips. All were hydrating and moderately glossy.
Scent/Flavor
These have a really pleasant apple-like scent.
Price
These retail for $2.99

My Thoughts
These are so darn cute! Scented like fruit and sporting a little apple in the center? I'm sold! Granted I'm a bit partial to apples given where I grew up (which is aptly referred to as Apple Country), I think these will appeal to wide variety of makeup lovers. These are hydrating and offer a subtle wash of color perfect for those that don't want a bold lip.
New York Color Big Bold Curl Mascara Review
Product Type
Big Bold Curl mascara is meant to provide volume and curl. This is not a waterproof formula
Application
First, let's talk the wand because this baby is huge. While it's roughly twice the circumference of some of the thinner mascara brushes I've used in the past (easily 50% larger than average size wands), it actually wasn't bad to use! Granted I've worn mascara every day for well over 16 years, I think with a little trial and error almost anyone could get the handle of this wand. I have incredibly short, thin lashes and I was still able to use it if that's at all helpful.
On the Lash
I had to ask myself the age old question--does size really matter? I found this mascara and its jumbo wand easy to work with overall. I did see some noticeable volume. As far as extra curl goes, I found that it didn't give me immediate curl on its own. I always curl my lashes and found that if I curled, applied a coat, curled again, then applied a second coat, the curl held well. Granted, not everyone is going to want to work that hard, for the price it may still be worth considering. Perhaps for those of you with longer, naturally curly lashes you won't have to go through this routine. But for those of us with teeny, pathetic lashes--there may be no other way around it. I saw no clumping and did not comb through my lashes prior to taking the picture below.

My Thoughts
I love that this didn't clump and for some reason, I actually kind of like the super large wand. On the other hand, while the volume this provided was fairly good, it did not provide insta-curl or lift. That being said, if you're looking for a decent mascara (that isn't waterproof) and don't mind or need to curl your lashes, this could be a great budget-friendly option.

I really think that NYC New York Color's products are underdogs and a lot of people don't know how awesome their stuff is. That being said, those trios are so cute and I'm such a sucker for a new mascara. I'll probably be running out to get it! xx
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was surprised, especially in comparison to some other drugstore brands I've reviewed, how decent these were! The price is incredibly low as well.
DeleteNice! That mascara is awesome!! I love the Applelicious balms - I have one - can't remember which one, though! <3
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's not a bad mascara :) Those applelicious balms are so darn cute! <3
DeleteThese seem really nice for the price! I would love to see a comparison of the eyeshadow trios with Wet 'n Wilds if you can. They seem quite similar at first glance!
ReplyDeleteDo you have the names of the Wet n Wild ones that are comparable? If you find out I can see if I can do a comparison post :)
DeleteCentral Park Plums looks like a great trio for those days when you're running late. The light shade could be a great way to blend the top edge of the crease color in 2 seconds flat.
ReplyDeleteCould be! Though I prefer mattes in my crease and up to my brow (minus a little shimmer sometimes just under the arch), but I know some don't mind! I was definitely impressed by the shades they put together, you don't always see such complementary shades in the drugstore trios ;)
DeleteI love the eye shadow colors very nice
ReplyDelete:D
DeleteI love the West Vintage trio! You are killing my wallet!
ReplyDeleteLol at least these are super budget-friendly ;)
DeleteI love NYC's polishes...I'll have to try some of their other cosmetics!
ReplyDeleteFun! I've never tried their polish actually!
DeleteI'm definitely picking up one (or many) of these lip balms. I'm a sucker for lip balms! LOL
ReplyDeleteAre they so darn cute?!
DeleteThe mascara looks pretty good! I like the Vintage shadow trio.
ReplyDeleteIt's not bad, especially for the price :)
DeleteHeard about this mascara. Think it's time I get it. Gorgeous post!
ReplyDeleteThanks ;)
DeleteWest Vintage is amazing! I'm so going to look for that palette today! You sure do have the best lip anything swatches around!
ReplyDeleteYay! Aw thank you!
