Lipstick Queen Review

Lipstick Queen Profile

You know those brands that hold a special place in your heart? Lipstick Queen is absolutely one of those for me. As a lipstick lover, how can you not appreciate an entire brand founded by a lovely someone that knows just how imperative a good lipstick is? Poppy King is one of my cosmetic heroes *sigh*. I recently talked about the new Velvet Rope collection, which you can read about in a prior post HERE. Well, Lipstick Queen was fabulous enough to offer to send me my favorite shade from the collection--Brat Pack--to share with all of you!

And yes, I may have almost fallen over myself getting to the door to get this package from our delivery guy. I'd like to say I gracefully answered the door with an Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's like elegance, but I would be lying. Total lipstick-loving fool, but I have no shame!

Price

This lipstick retails for $50 (.12 oz/3.5 grams)

Where to Buy

Brat Pack (along with the other Velvet Rope lipsticks) can be purchased on Lipstick Queen's site HERE

Lipstick Queen Brat Pack Swatch and Review

Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Review

Product Type

This is a matte lipstick that has been inspired by the golden age of Hollywood--from packaging to shade.

Shade

Lipstick Queen Brat Pack Review
Lipstick Queen Brat Pack looks deeper in the tube than it does in person. I love the stamping detail!

Lipstick Queen Brat Pack Swatch
Lipstick Queen Brat Pack - absolute red with matte finish (a teeny bit less warm than shown here, but my camera always warms reds slightly)

Scent

This has a subtle minty-ness to it.

Packaging

From box to golden tube, this lipstick is the epitome of luxury. The box has a soft, raised velvet exterior. The tube is a gorgeous yellow gold and the top is magnetically held to the base. The tube itself has a wonderful heft to it and the packaging does not attract and retain fingerprints despite it's shiny exterior.

On the Lips

If you've ever tried any of Poppy King's formulas (Lipstick Queen, Poppy King for Boots No7, etc.) you know her lipstick formulas are some of the most lovely to wear--buttery, pigmented, etc. Despite being a matte formula, this glides on in 1 pigmented swipe and feels feather-light. It is not drying, it does not cling to dry skin, it's isn't thick ... it is as close to matte perfection as you can come! I have tried hundreds of matte lipsticks over the years and I can only think of one lipstick that even comes close to how comfortable and pigmented this is.

My Thoughts

If you like matte lipsticks, but hate how uncomfortable and finicky they can be, this lipstick is a must! If you love the golden age of Hollywood (one of the most inspiring periods to me), this lipstick simply has to find its way to your vanity. This lipstick is even better than I imagined it would be. Everything from beginning to end screams glamour and the only thing more lovely than its gorgeous, golden tube is how beautifully it wears on the lips. I swear this lipstick is so elegant and glamorous, it should have its own little diamond tiara and elbow gloves!

I know the price tag is a bit higher than some other lipsticks, but I firmly believe that for true lipstick lovers it will not disappoint. This is the type of lipstick you treasure. I cannot say enough about it! I'm in love.

Now I just need to pick up my other favorite from the Velvet Rope bunch--Private Party. I know what I'm asking for, for Christmas!

What do you think? Would you purchase this red carpet worthy lipstick?

  4. It's beautiful! Hey, in the spirit of Halloween, is there a black lipstick you can recommend? Something that looks nice but won't break the bank...

    1. I've heard NYC New York Color's Black Knight lipstick ($1.99) is actually a good black! MAC is releasing some super dark lippies (including a black lippy) in the upcoming Punk Couture collection and they're all supposed to be amazing. I know the MAC black lippy is supposed to be released Black Friday and then again in the Punk Couture collection at the end of the year/beginning of 2014.

    2. Thank you so much! I guess for Halloween it'll have to be NYC, but I am definitely keeping my eyes open for the MAC collection!
