Birchbox Profile

I know I'm not the only person that loves receiving little beauty surprises in the mail! I remember back when Birchbox first launched and I eagerly browsed through their site; a subscription service dedicated to beauty-lovers--genius! I quickly subscribed and absolutely fell in love with the first 5-6 months of boxes. As with all new companies, things changed a bit as Birchbox matured and I found myself a little less excited with each coming month. It wasn't that the products were necessarily bad (I did not receive a designer ziploc bag in any of mine for the record), my main concern was that as a lifelong beauty addict I received samples for a lot of product I'd already tried. One of my younger sisters, however, who was less experienced (not brand new to makeup, but simply give our age, less experienced) adored the boxes. I took a break from Birchbox about a year ago and was given the chance to explore many other subscriptions, but when I was offered the opportunity to review September's box, I eagerly jumped at the chance to see what one of my first beauty subscription loves was up to.

For those unfamiliar with how Birchbox works, it is a beauty subscription service that delivers beauty samples to you on a monthly basis. Birchbox now offers boxes for women and men (I actually subscribed to the men's box for the Hubs when it first launched and he did a guest review). Back when they first launched, I believe we got 5-6 deluxe samples. I couldn't find a description on exactly how many samples to expect each month, but judging by what I received you still get around 5 sample size products. Back when I first subscribed you created a small beauty profile that enabled you to determine some likes and dislikes, areas of interest, etc. I didn't go through this process for this box as it was sent by PR, but I'd assume this may still be the case for the women's box.

Note: As of right now, it looks as if there's a 2 week wait for the men's and women's subscriptions.

Price

The women's box is a monthly subscription fee of $10/month (the men's is $20/month).

My Thoughts

I have prior experience with all of the products in this box except the Davines Love Shampoo. Thankfully, I am a huge fan of Whish and Eyeko! That Whish body butter is amazing (get it if you haven't tried it already). The Color Club polish is nice, but I have many similar colors already. The La Fresh makeup wipes actually work really well at removing even waterproof mascara, though I wish it had included a packet of multiple wipes instead of just 2 individually wrapped wipes. All in all, I think my feelings on Birchbox now are similar to what they were a year ago--the subscription service itself is good, but may be most appealing to those that don't spend a good portion of their time hunting out the latest and greatest in the makeup industry on their own. I do think that price-wise Birchbox is very budget-friendly, which makes it a tad more appealing than some of the more expensive subscriptions out there. I also think it's a great way for makeup newbies or those that don't have time to explore new products to get introduced to new products and brands with very little hassle.
