Wantable Makeup Box Profile

Wantable is a subscription service that currently offers several different box subscriptions--makeup, accessories, intimates (new), Halloween (limited edition). Subscribers generate a profile of preferences and boxes are built around these preferences each month. For example, if you prefer powder blush but don't like cream blush, you can indicate this when you create your profile. It took about 5 minutes to get through all of the profile questions, which were easy to navigate. Makeup boxes contain 4-6 full-size premium makeup products according to Wantable's site.

Price

A one-time makeup box purchase retails for $40. A monthly makeup box subscription retails for $36/month. Subscribers can cancel or skip a box at any time.

Values

Wantable includes a list or products and their retail values in each box

As you can see above, according to the retail values listed by Wantable for each product, the total value of the September Wantable box I received was $86. I did my own quick research to compare the retail values I found online and this is what I found:

According to the current prices offered by the brands above, the total value of this box right now (assuming the sale prices don't change) is $71.

I'm not sure if the Manna Kadar products are on sale as part of a promotion, permanently set at these new sales prices or being phased out.

My Thoughts

$71 current retail value according to brand sites
- $40 cost of 1x Wantable Makeup Box purchase
  $31 value

Using the most conservative retail values and the most expensive purchase price, the value of the box is still nearly double the purchase price.

$86 original retail prices as listed by Wantable
- $36 cost of monthly subscription to Wantable Makeup Box
  $50 value

Using the original retail values listed by Wantable and the discounted monthly subscription rate, the value of the box is well over double the purchase price.

As you can see, you certainly get more value for the cost no matter which way you cut it. I love that the profile is comprehensive enough to allow you to exclude some products and relay the fact that you're more interested in others. From the one box I received, this seems more customized than other subscription makeup boxe I've received in the past. I'd be interested to see as time went on what kind of variety you'd receive, but I personally think this one box had a great list of products. I am unfamiliar with Manna Kadar and Cailyn and look forward to checking out what they have to offer.

As promised, I received 4 full-size products and then a bonus of a blister-package style sample. I'm glad to see that 4 of these products were actually full-size! I think all in all that this makeup subscription box could be great for those interested in trying new brands or just starting to explore makeup.

Have you every purchased or subscribed to the Wantable Makeup Box? What was your experience like?

  4. I've been thinking about subscribing for a long time! Still haven't made up my mind, I wish boxes weren't so hit or miss. This one sounds pretty customizable though.

    1. I don't know how it would play out over time, but it is by far the most customizable sub I've ever experienced (and I think I've done just about all of them at this point lol).
