Votre Vu Lip Lustre Swatches & Review

Product Profile

I've been a longtime fan of Votre Vu and have had the pleasure of reviewing quite a few of their products over the years. Their skin care is so luxe and lovely, when I heard they were launching a line of cosmetics I couldn't wait to see what they had in store.

These lip lustres come in a traditional lip gloss tube and (according to Votre Vu) are filled with lip conditioning ingredients. They are meant to be used solo or layered.

They each have a doe foot applicator, which I find to be generally easy to work with.

Scent/Flavor

These have a super faint scent that isn't perfume-y, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is as it is so incredibly light.

Price

These are priced at $22 retail. Brand Ambassadors (an affiliation with Votre Vu) receive discounted prices.

Votre Vu Lip Lustre in Charming Swatch & Review

Color

Charming is a creamy light pink.

Application/Opacity

This applies smoothly. As you can see, it is not fully opaque and pigmentation does tend to settle into the lip lines when worn solo.

Wear

This is comfortable to wear and does not feel heavy--it is actually fairly hydrating. For those that are concerned (this isn't an area that bothers me, but I know some have a serious preference), there is a super light tackiness, but this is not what I would consider a sticky gloss. Your lips will not fuse together each time you close them. Some may not even notice any tackiness at all because it is so faint.

Complementary Product Recommendations

As the pigment does tend to settle into the lip lines I suggest pairing it with a neutral lipstick or lip pencil as I think it would give a neutral lippy a really nice finish and make wear more comfortable.

My Thoughts

I love the feel of this gloss and I love how nice it makes your lips feel--quite hydrating. The downside is that I personally could not wear this gloss on its own. When wearing lip gloss solo I prefer the coverage be even in regards to pigmentation. I do tend to layer my lippies so this will not go to waste, but if you're looking for something you can wear alone this may not be the best product for you.

Votre Vu Lip Lustre in Demure Swatches & Review

Color

This is a creamy translucent gloss with a fun almost-holographic pink flash. It suits its name perfectly!

Application/Opacity

This is as easy to work with as the others. Obviously this gloss is not meant to be opaque, but ironically the final effect is very even and I would wear this solo as well as layered as a result. The flash of pink shimmer is lovely, but subtle at the same time.

Wear

Wear is comfortable and hydrating. This has the same super slight tackiness I described above--indiscernible by some, but perhaps noticeable to those with huge aversions to any sort of stickiness.

Complementary Product Recommendations

I think this gloss would work well over just about any lipstick or lip pencil as well as solo on your lips. Keep in mind that the milky effect will slightly soften the shade of the color you wear underneath as it is not clear--I sometimes use glosses like this to tone down super bright shades if the look or occasion calls for something less ostentatious.

My Thoughts

I really like this gloss and I think the flash of pink shimmer is lovely and delicate. The wear of this lip gloss is hydrating and comfortable and I'd highly recommend giving this a try if it is within your budget.

Votre Vu Lip Lustre in Tempting Swatches & Review

Color

Tempting has a raspberry shimmer with loads of teeny sparks.

Application/Opacity

This is as easy to work with as the others and offers completely opaque coverage with one layer. It is actually slightly darker in person than pictured above, but given that it's a gloss it can be difficult to capture the depth of color when the light hits it.

Wear

This was lovely to wear--just as hydrating and comfortable as the other 2. The same super slight tackiness applies to this as well.

Complementary Product Recommendations

This can obviously be worn alone, but I think it would also look lovely over deeper toned lipsticks and lip pencils. I intend to wear it both solo and layered!

My Thoughts

I'm definitely a fan of this one and I can see myself reaching for it this fall for sure!

Final Thoughts

I really like the formulas on these as far as wear and hydration goes--very comfortable on the lips. This is the type of gloss that could potentially make an uncomfortable lip pencil or lipstick (gotta love some of those ultra-drying mattes) more pleasant to wear. I think my favorite of the group is probably Tempting simply because it is such a lovely color and the micro sparks are so glamorous. Demure is lovely and one I would wear solo and layered year-round. Charming is the only one that I felt would be a bit less versatile as I personally can't see myself wearing it solo and you'd have to be careful to use a neutral shade that was fairly similar in hue as the pigment will noticeably settle into lip lines over colors it contrasts with. All in all, I think that if these glosses are within your budget and you like the sound of the formula and the look of the colors you may want to give one a try.

What do you think? Would you give one of these glosses a whirl?
