Hourglass Profile
Hourglass is a company that has intrigued me since the first time I came across their products. Packaging is sleek and sophisticated looking and the range of products is impressive. I was fortune enough to be given the opportunity to give their Veil Fluid Makeup a whirl and I'm excited to share my thoughts with you today!
According to the brand, their liquid foundations are made with ingredients beneficial to your skin that will help improve texture and appearance. I've heard a number of people with problem skin tend to favor Hourglass for its wear and long-term effects. Veil was suggested to me because I have dry, sensitive skin.

Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup in Nude Review
Shade
Nude is a light-medium yellow-beige with a somewhat warm undertone (I'm cool-neutral, but I was still able to make this work, though a cooler shade would have been a perfect match). I'm surprised that this is one of the lightest shades as it's definitely a medium color. I think as we get further into fall I will either need to mix and lighten this or wear one shade below (I'm an NC 25-30 for reference depending on the season), but for the moment it's not too deep for my complexion. This has a dewy finish on its own.
Application
This smoothed really nicely into the skin with a synthetic or natural hair foundation brush. I found it easy to blend out as well. I did notice that this sets a bit slower than many liquid foundation I've worked with, which isn't a bad thing in my opinion, but I would suggest setting it with setting powder.
Scent
There is a very subtle scent that reminds me a tiny bit of sunscreen (this does have broad spectrum SPF 15, but I'm not sure that can be attributed to the scent). It's not obnoxious and it's not super strong, but it does linger on the face a bit once it's been applied. I've tried other foundation with scents that were too strong for me to wear--I did not find this one to be a problem.
Coverage
This provided my skin with medium coverage, which is exactly what it is supposed to yield. Granted my skin is fairly even, I think anyone looking for medium coverage would find this to be adequate.
Wear
This is actually quite comfortable on the skin. It does not feel heavy, but I have very sensitive skin so I tend to feel everything I put on my face. This almost felt as though it grew progressively lighter weight within 20 min of applying it and I could barely feel that I was wearing anything at all. Could it be that it gets better with "age"? This did cling the tiniest bit to my dry trouble spots (I've discussed in previous posts that I have a few areas that are dry on my face and always give me a little trouble with liquid foundations), but I think that if I had used a more hydrating primer it wouldn't have been a problem at all. I don't think this will be an issue for those that don't have dry skin and it was so super slight anyway. I had to look at my face within super close proximity to see it--closer than standing distance by far. Overall I am incredibly pleased by the way this felt and wore. It did not feel tight on my skin and did not leave my skin feeling dehydrated--worked well for my dry, sensitive skin!
If you have oily skin I'd recommend trying out Immaculate over Veil as I've heard amazing things about it for those with oily and acne-prone skin. I have a sister with this skin type and if I get the opportunity to have her give Immaculate a whirl I'll be sure to share.

I'd also like to note that it feels very soft to the touch while on your face. Not that you or anyone else will be touching your fully made up face, but it was surprising how nice it felt on my fingertips!
Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup in Nude in Use
I wanted to show you guys how this looks and photographs because it's quite lovely. Unfortunately it's rainy and gross out, but I managed to get some okay shots despite that.

Final Thoughts
I am really impressed with this foundation! It didn't irritate my skin and wasn't uncomfortable to wear. It looks fabulous in person and photographs beautifully. While I can't comment on the long-term skin benefits, I can tell you that I review a large volume of foundations each year and this is definitely one of the top ones of 2013 for me. I love that it offers SPF 15, which I think is just perfect for fall. I'd heard a lot of fabulous things about hourglass over the last year or so and I've played a bit with a few other Hourglas products in Sephora. I'm happy to say that this foundation absolutely lived up to my expectations and I'm excited to experience other products in their lineup!
Have you tried Hourglas Veil Fluid Makeup or any of their other foundations? What did you think?

My best friend swears by this!
ReplyDeleteI can see why ;)
DeleteI want your skin darnit!
ReplyDeleteAre you planning to wear it like a raincoat? ;) You should give this a try if you don't have oily skin! I know Sephora carries Hourglass and you may find it gives you the effect you want! Or Immaculate (instead of Veil) if you have oily skin (I tested some out at Sephora and if it weren't for the fact I have dry skin I would have snatched it up in a second)!
DeleteThis sounds amazing! I'll have to give it a whirl! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is really nice :) If you try it let me know what you think!

ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of spending extra on foundation, especially with my sensitive skin! I rarely find budget-friendly brands that work for me, but I suppose I'm use to it now :)
Deletelooks great on you! if only i knew exactly what to do with any cosmetics other than nail polish or lip balm.
