Bootie Babe Review & Swatches - Pacific Rim, Top Shelf, Butt or Brickle

Bootie Babe L to R: Top Shelf, Pacific Rim, Butt or Brickle

Product Profile

Every time I see these bottles "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-A-Lot comes to mind! Bootie Babe is (as I'm sure you've heard or gathered from the image above) a bum-themed polish line. While you may or may not like the play on bum-themed polish names (and bum-shaped bottles), the polish color selection offers some unique shades--which is largely what peaked my interest when they first launched. I was recently given the opportunity to give a few a try.

Price

These are priced at $8 retail.

Where to Buy

Bootie Babe Top Shelf Swatch & Review

Color

Hot pink with semi-matte, vinyl-like finish and slight shimmer.

Application

This applied easily and provided excellent control. I used 3 coats to achieve complete opacity.

My Thoughts

Between the color and finish I love this polish! Being as bright as it is I assumed it would potentially dry matte, but it actually dries to this interesting semi-matte, vinyl like finish. If Barbie shopped through Bootie Babe polishes this would be her pick!

Bootie Babe Pacific Rim Swatch & Review

Color

Pearly ocean blue with slight shift.

Application

This applied well, but was very sheer. I used a total of 3 coats and probably could have done another to achieve a little more opacity.

My Thoughts

Despite being semi-sheer I think this is a really pretty color and the formula isn't super thin--very easy to work with. If you don't mind semi-sheer shades I think this is worth a try.

Bootie Babe Butt or Brickle Swatch & Review

Color

A brassy pearl with antique rose shift.

Application

This is also semi-sheer, but easy to work with. I used 4 coats above to achieve maximum capacity and color-shift, but you could definitely get away with 3.

My Thoughts

I'm assuming the name of this polish is a play on the ice cream flavor "butter brickle". I was pleasantly surprised by how much of a color shift this polish offers as you often see duochromes that are gorgeous in the bottle, but flat on the nail. If you like duochromes and don't mind waiting for a couple extra coats to dry this is beautiful.

Final Re-Cap

Final Thoughts

I'm not sure if it's the formula, polish brush (which is almost a cross between a traditional brush and pro brush), or the combination of both, but I found these polishes to be very easy to work with--lending a good deal of control. The fact that some are sheer isn't a problem to me, but if you prefer absolute opacity in 1 or 2 coats these may not be for you. I love Top Shelf (we all know I love pink polish) and its interesting finish and I think Butt or Brickle is a fairly impressive duochrome. I like Pacific Rim, but found it to be the least striking of the 3--though not a bad shade. I'm still undecided on what I think of the bum-shaped bottles and bum-themed polishes, but that aside, the polish itself is pretty good. Given that the price point is pretty moderate these may be worth a try for no other reason than the easy-to-work-with formula and novelty of the bottle shapes on your polish rack.

What do you think? Will you be trying these bootie polishes?

  8. The bottles are so weird! I'm expecting them to revamp the brush handles now and make it look like a six-pk (for added ergonomic grip of course!). Love the colours but pricey for thin polish. That said I rly like the Pacific Rim and would probably get it if it wasn't über sheer and $8. This brand seems like Zoya in fancier packaging. Just my take (and in my world that's not a compliment bc Zoya is very hit and miss with their formula on different colours) .
Now someone needs to create dollhead polish or shrunken voodoo zombie (doodoo zombie!) polish or something like that. A head bottle to match the lower half and hair is the handle. Or something.

    1. LOL funny idea ;) They use to have different brushes/handles but these are much nicer! I guess to me $8 is moderately priced, but it really depends on what you normally pay for polish.

Dollhead or voodoo polish could be funny, though there are already skulls lol
