You've probably heard the news by now that butter LONDON will be releasing a full cosmetic line in just a couple days (August 1st to be exact). When I first caught wind of this I was pretty excited--butter LONDON has been a long-time polish and lip gloss favorite of mine. I recently received 2 products for the upcoming collection to review and share with you today--a liner and a cream shadow.

As you can see, packaging for the Wink eye liner is standard and the Wink cream shadow comes in a tube with a doe foot applicator. |

L to R: Union Jack Black Wink Eye Liner, Jaded Jack Wink Cream Shadow |
butter LONDON Union Jack Black Wink Eye Pencil
Color
Union Jack Black is a matte black. It is more similar to Urban Decay Zero (a sooty black) rather than super, ultra black like Perversion.
Application
This applied similarly to other soft pencil eyeliners such as Urban Decay or Make Up For Ever. It's very pigmented and I found that as long as my waterline was dry that it applied fairly well to it with a decent amount of coverage.
Wear
I had some wear after 6 hours on my waterline, but there wasn't a substantial amount of bleeding. It's not as budge-proof as Mirenesse liners, but probably more comparable to Urban Decay 24/7 liners and MAKE Up For Ever Aqua eyes liners where it's fairly budge-proof, but not entirely.
My Thoughts
This is definitely a decent liner that is comparable to some of the more popular black liners I have used performance-wise. The net weight of the pencil and price are comparable to other popular brands as well so I think this will definitely prove to be a reasonable option for those that shop within this price point, looking for a pencil with these qualities. I actually don't mind that it's not super, ultra deep black as sometime I like a softer black liner. I'll be interested to see the other colors that get released.
Price
This retails for $18.
Where to Buy
This will be available starting August 1st on Ulta.com and butterLONDON.com.
butter LONDON Jaded Jack Wink Cream Eye Shadow

butter LONDON Jaded Jack - these come with a doe foot applicator in a lip gloss-like tube |
Color
Jaded Jack is a shimmery jade-green.
Application
Oooooh boy ... normally I am such a butter LONDON fan but for multiple reason this cream shadow did not work for me. It was incredibly uneven to apply, thin and did not set very well. I want to mention that I have been using cream shadows from a long list of brands for approximately 20 years--I'm not new to them. I tried applying this with my finger (which I really hate to do), the applicator, and a paddle brush. I tried this on freshly cleansed, dry skin without moisturizer. I tried it on freshly cleansed moisturized skin. I tried it on primed skin with 2 different primers. It just didn't apply evenly or grab the skin and it didn't set. I actually took a picture of my last and final attempt to show how quickly even the smallest amount creased and didn't stick to to the lid--keep in mine I do not have oily lids, I actually have dry skin.

You can see here that the cream shadow basically pooled around the edges of my crease and lashline. |
My Thoughts
Given my experience, I have to say that either the tube I received had defective product in it or the formula-itself needs work. I like cream shadows and find they can be really great wear-wise with the right formula, but the application alone of this product was too difficult for me to even test for wear. Hopefully mine was defective and this isn't the case with all of them.
Price
This retails for $18
Where to Buy
This will be available August 1st on Ulta.com and butterLONDON.com
Final Thoughts
From my experience, one product was a win and one was unfortunately a fail. The liner is great and definitely worth a try, but the cream shadow is not something I can suggest based on my experience. I'm interested to see the other shades and products released by butter LONDON in their Bespoke Colour Cosmetics collection! I think the cream blush and tinted lip balm probably interested me most.
What do you think? Are you planning to purchase from butter LONDON's new cosmetic line?

That's so disappointing about the cream shadow!
ReplyDeleteIt is! Such a pretty color too :/
DeleteThanks for such an honest review, Doria! I can always count on you! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I'm such a stickler for product performance and how else will companies know if bloggers and customers aren't honest? ;)
DeleteThat liner looks great! Might have to try :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty good one!
DeleteThanks for sharing that! I really don't like it when my eye shadows crease. Especially so early after application!
ReplyDeleteThis was just ... beyond creasing. The formula definitely needs work imo unless my tube was atypical of what the formula is normally like :/
DeleteSuch a bummer the cream shadow wasn't that great....the color could have been so fun!
ReplyDeleteI know!

DeleteAwwnn.. That's sad about the eyeshadow. I was digging the whole cream thing till I saw how it looked. The color is so summertime fun.
ReplyDeleteDefinintely a great color, but sadly the formula didn't work for me :/
Delete:( def. sad about the eyeshadow thank you for the honest review!
ReplyDeleteSeriously :/ You're welcome!
DeleteAww, how disappointing about the cream shadow! :( Great honest review! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah :( Maybe they'll improve it in the future or perhaps a different color is better?
DeleteSuch a pretty green, how sad :(
ReplyDeleteYeah :(
DeleteGreens are my eye colour to go to, shame about the formula because its such a lovely colour. Great post as always, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI had issues with the eyeshadow as well. Such a bummer because the pigmentation is fab.
ReplyDeleteSeems like the formula needs some tweaking sadly :/
DeleteDid you try the cream eyeshadow with a base? Maybe a base will help it stay.
ReplyDeleteYep :) Base, primer, etc. Unfortunately, it's just not a great formula
