Review: Chicstix Shaving Wand

I was recently given the opportunity to try Chicstix Shaving Wands and I have to admit, I was quite intrigued by their products. These nifty shaving wands, as they refer to them, are literally solid sticks you use in place of shaving cream or body wash when you shave.

I was given 3 Chicstix shaving wands to review as you can see. Each different scent has a different girl on the label and a unique scent. Pomegranate is my favorite of the three, but all of them are lovely! Those that like fruity scents would like Sweet Mango and Island Breeze is tropical and coconut-y. Pomegranate has a very pleasant, not overpoweringly sweet smell that's fresh and lovely.

As you can see, these look very similar to deodorant on the inside, though they're firm to the touch.

Chicstix shaving wands have a number of natural ingredients that help these products to condition skin while you use them. For someone that doesn't want "fragrance" or methicone in their products, these wouldn't be for you, but since these aren't left on the skin I don't personally feel much absorbs into my skin, so it doesn't bother me.

How They Work
Using a ChicStis shaving wand is super simple. All you do is moisten your skin, swipe this across the skin you're intending to shave, then shave as usual.

Performance
When I first used these I was a tad scared that I'd end up shaving off half of the skin on my leg (though in all honest I never, ever cut myself), so I did about 20 passes up my leg before shaving. I did about 6 or 7 passes under my arms before shaving. There was no pull under my arms and no noticeable pull at my skin. I do think there is every so slightly less glide than using a synthetic shaving cream, but it is barely, barely noticeable and certainly not enough to say this gives you a worse shave. In fact, I think I may have even gotten smoother results from using this!

Price
Chicstix shaving wands are priced at $9 retail per wand.

Where to Buy
You can purchase Chicstix shaving wands on the company's site HERE.

Final Thoughts
I'm pretty impressed with these, I imagine they'd last for quite a few more shaves than a bottle, tube, or can of shaving gel/foam and since they're solid and non-aerosol, you can bring them onto a plane without worry! I wasn't at all irritated by these (and I have sensitive skin), which is probably partially due to the fact these wash right off after use and don't leave a film on your skin. I would definitely suggest giving these a try if you're looking for a convenient shaving lubricant! The one area I would not personally give these a go on would be your bikini line, simply because there isn't much in regards to lather, but that's just my opinion ;)

What do you think? Would you try a shaving solid in lieu of your normal product?

  1. I was one of the lucky few to be involved during the invention and testing phase of this ingenious product. Mango is my favorite, but there are many scents to choose from and each is equally pleasing. I love the fact that it leaves my skin feeling smooth, cuts shaving time in half becasue you aren't having to rinse the blade every stroke to rid of foam and it travels well, no worries getting through airport security with this nifty stick.
I highly recommend this product and encourage you to visit Menskinusa.com for the men in your life as well. Both products are an asset to the shaving world and a MUST have in our home!
    Happy Shaving...
