Butter London Bespoke Colour Cosmetics Review: Jaded Jack Wink Cream Shadow, Union Jack Black Wink Eye Pencil

Products in this review were provided by PR/the brand

You've probably heard the news by now that butter LONDON will be releasing a full cosmetic line in just a couple days (August 1st to be exact). When I first caught wind of this I was pretty excited--butter LONDON has been a long-time polish and lip gloss favorite of mine. I recently received 2 products for the upcoming collection to review and share with you today--a liner and a cream shadow.

As you can see, packaging for the Wink eye liner is standard and the Wink cream shadow comes in a tube with a doe foot applicator.

L to R: Union Jack Black Wink Eye Liner, Jaded Jack Wink Cream Shadow

butter LONDON Union Jack Black Wink Eye Pencil

Color

Union Jack Black is a matte black. It is more similar to Urban Decay Zero (a sooty black) rather than super, ultra black like Perversion.

Application

This applied similarly to other soft pencil eyeliners such as Urban Decay or Make Up For Ever. It's very pigmented and I found that as long as my waterline was dry that it applied fairly well to it with a decent amount of coverage.

Wear

I had some wear after 6 hours on my waterline, but there wasn't a substantial amount of bleeding. It's not as budge-proof as Mirenesse liners, but probably more comparable to Urban Decay 24/7 liners and MAKE Up For Ever Aqua eyes liners where it's fairly budge-proof, but not entirely.

My Thoughts

This is definitely a decent liner that is comparable to some of the more popular black liners I have used performance-wise. The net weight of the pencil and price are comparable to other popular brands as well so I think this will definitely prove to be a reasonable option for those that shop within this price point, looking for a pencil with these qualities. I actually don't mind that it's not super, ultra deep black as sometime I like a softer black liner. I'll be interested to see the other colors that get released.

Price

This retails for $18.

Where to Buy

This will be available starting August 1st on Ulta.com and butterLONDON.com.

butter LONDON  Jaded Jack Wink Cream Eye Shadow

butter LONDON Jaded Jack - these come with a doe foot applicator in a lip gloss-like tube

Color

Jaded Jack is a shimmery jade-green.

Application

Oooooh boy ... normally I am such a butter LONDON fan but for multiple reason this cream shadow did not work for me. It was incredibly uneven to apply, thin and did not set very well. I want to mention that I have been using cream shadows from a long list of brands for approximately 20 years--I'm not new to them. I tried applying this with my finger (which I really hate to do), the applicator, and a paddle brush. I tried this on freshly cleansed, dry skin without moisturizer. I tried it on freshly cleansed moisturized skin. I tried it on primed skin with 2 different primers. It just didn't apply evenly or grab the skin and it didn't set. I actually took a picture of my last and final attempt to show how quickly even the smallest amount creased and didn't stick to to the lid--keep in mine I do not have oily lids, I actually have dry skin.

You can see here that the cream shadow basically pooled around the edges of my crease and lashline.

My Thoughts

Given my experience, I have to say that either the tube I received had defective product in it or the formula-itself needs work. I like cream shadows and find they can be really great wear-wise with the right formula, but the application alone of this product was too difficult for me to even test for wear. Hopefully mine was defective and this isn't the case with all of them.

Price

This retails for $18

Where to Buy

This will be available August 1st on Ulta.com and butterLONDON.com

Final Thoughts

From my experience, one product was a win and one was unfortunately a fail. The liner is great and definitely worth a try, but the cream shadow is not something I can suggest based on my experience. I'm interested to see the other shades and products released by butter LONDON in their Bespoke Colour Cosmetics collection! I think the cream blush and tinted lip balm probably interested me most.

What do you think? Are you planning to purchase from butter LONDON's new cosmetic line?

Urban Decay Blowout on Hautelook - Crazy discounts!

I've seen Urban Decay on Hautelook many times over the last 3 years since I've shopped on there, but today's prices are INSANE in my opinion. I've grabbed basically one of everything lol. There's a mix of new liners, a gloss, tinted moisturizers, and some of the stardust shadows.

I just purchased almost 1 of each item. Some for me, some for gifts! The average item was $5 or $6 each--such a good deal.

Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Travel Size Cleansing Cloths, 24 Hour Face Cream and 24 Hour Booster Serum Review

Products in this review were provided by PR/the brand

I reviewed Kaia Naturals about 1.5 years ago (crazy how fast time goes by) and loved their Juicy Bamboo towelettes! You can read my original review HERE. When I was given the opportunity to review their new products I jumped at the chance! I love that they're cruelty-free and that their new face products are gluten-free. Let's just jump right into the reviews...

Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Travel Size Towelettes

Product Description

These individually wrapped cleansing clothes are eco-friendly and soaked in vitamins. They are meant to handle everything from skin cleansing to makeup removal. I was given enough for 5 days of use.

Makeup Removal

These easily removed face makeup and did fairly well on "regular" eye products. I did find I had to do some extra "scrubbing" for super waterproof makeup, so I would recommend using these for the removal of non-waterproof makeup if you are like me and tend to favor super budge-proof products.

Facial Cleansing

These did a great job cleansing my skin and while I wouldn't say you could go without moisturizing (I tend to have slightly dry skin), they didn't suck the moisture out of my skin like so many cleansing cloths I've tried.

My Thoughts

I still really like these, but I'm unsure of why I had a different experience in regards to waterproof eye makeup removal this time versus last time. I'm not sure if it's because there's a difference in how moist the travel cloths are compared to the ones in the tub, but that was the only major area I saw a difference. The convenience factor is certainly very appealing, however. I could see myself keeping these in my purse or kit for facial cleansing--definitely a big plus. These did not irritate my super sensitive skin in any way and are cruelty-free.

One other thing I want to point out to those of you that have never used these cloths is the size. I noted it last time as well. These cloths are smaller than drugstore cleansing cloths, but they are large enough to cleanse your face and remove your makeup (with the exception of super waterproof makeup from my experience). Just a heads up!

All in all I like these and definitely think they will be a really appealing option for some beauty users and makeup artists

Price

These retail for $19.50 for 20 individually wrapped cloths.

Where to Buy

These are available on Kaia's site HERE

Kaia Naturals 24 HR Face Cream and Primer

Product Description

This is a gluten-free, anti-aging face cream formula meant to provide excellent hydration and priming (with a matte finish) without some of the undesirable ingredients used in other traditional primers (no silicone or synthetic polymer). I was given enough to use this product for 4 days.

Moisturizing

Typically I prefer to use a moisturizer for 7-14 days prior to forming an opinion, but as my sample was enough for me to use for 4 days I'll give my thoughts thus far! This moisturizer was excellent over the 4 consecutive days I used it. My skin is naturally fairly dry and this hydrated my skin well! The matte finish leaves skin soft and even, but not "greasy".

Primer

I want to start off by saying I personally think a good primer is hard to find. I'm not a huge fan of silicone as an ingredient, but find 9/10 that primer includes silicone, which provides a nearly flawless appearance once foundation has been applied. This is a silicone-free formula so keeping that in mind, my expectations were that it would provide a great surface to apply foundation, but not necessary provide some of the "benefits" silicone can offer. That being said, the matte finish and hydration that this priming face cream offered for my skin was fabulous! I don't have many fine lines and my skin is fairly even so I don't require some of the things silicone can offer in a primer, so keep that in mind, but overall I found this was a really fabulous skin prepping product and one that I would personally like to add to my daily routine!

My Thoughts

I was extremely impressed with this formula and would like to use it long-term to see how it continues to work for me! I'm not sure I've come a cross a face cream with natural ingredients that provides a hydrating, yet matte finish. To me, this is a product of note and definitely one that those that prefer natural ingredients may want to consider. I don't know how this would work on someone that has trouble skin, so I can't necessary recommend it to those of you with that skin type, but it may be worth contacting Kaia directly to discuss it further! Personally, I love this!

I want to note that this does not have a real scent and it is not super heavy-feeling on the face.

Price

This is priced at $36 retail.

Where to Buy

This can be purchased on Kaia Naturals' site HERE

Kaia Naturals 24 Hr Booster Serum

Product Description

This is a gluten-free, hydration-boosting serum meant to be added to your face cream. This is suggested for dry skin. I was given enough to use it 4 times.

Moisturizing

This is definitely very moisturizing when added to my face cream! I added this to the Kaia face cream I mentioned above and found it left my skin incredibly soft and smooth.

Primer

On Kaia's site it mentions this acts as a 2 in 1 product--skincare and primer. While this would work well for me when coupled with a matte-finish foundation (since my dry skin isn't a huge fan of super-matte foundations), this serum did give me a slightly dewy finish (in comparison to the cream alone, which is matte) and may not be what some people are looking for in a primer when it comes to finish. As far as prepping the skin itself, it hydrates it very well and made it much more receptive to many of the face products I use.

My Thoughts

I like this and I think I'd personally use it during the night more so than during the day as it is ever so slightly heavier feeling on the skin than the face cream alone. The non-matte finish isn't a deal breaker for me as I like a dewy finish alone, but when coupled with a dewy-finish foundation I definitely needed something to mattify it.

This has no real smell and did not irritate my sensitive skin over the course of the time I used it.

Price

This retails for $36.

Where to Buy

This can be purchased on Kaia Naturals' site HERE

Kaia Naturals 24 Hr Eye Cream

The reason this was not mentioned in the title is because I was unable to review it. Something in this formula irritated my eyes within moments of the first time I used it and I was unable to leave it on my skin. It's too bad because I really love the matte face cream! I have no idea what in the formula didn't work for me, but I have fairly sensitive skin and eyes, so it's not uncommon for me to find things I can't use.

What do you think about these Kaia Naturals products? Will you be trying any of them?

SinfulColors SinfulShine Swatches & Review - Most Sinful, Wisp

Products in this review were provided by PR/the brand

L to R: Most Sinful, Wisp

Product Profile

I was recently given the opportunity to choose 2 of the fabulous shades from SinfulColor's new SinfulShine collection--a line of ultra-shiny, high-gloss polishes developed to give users the same finish achieved with acrylic UV cured gel without a lamp! This was actually my first time working with this particular SinfulColors line.

Price

These retail for $2.99.

Where to Buy

The 32 available SinfulShine colors are available exclusively at Walgreens.

SinfulShine Most Sinful Swatch & Review

SinfulShine Most Sinful - 2 coats no top coat

Color

Most Sinful is a gorgeous royal blue cream.

Application

Application was fine with this polish. It wasn't too thick or too thin, it self-leveled well and overall worked nicely. It dried fairly quickly as well.

My Thoughts

I really like both the color and formula on this polish! That insane shine you see above is 100% a result of the polish, not a top coat, which I found really impressive. I think this is a great polish and for the price ... you really can't beat it!

SinfulShine Wisp Swatch & Review

SinfulShine Wisp - 2 coats no top coat

Color

Wisp is a brilliant white cream.

Application

On the one hand, this has the potential to be a one-coat white with the right application. On the other hand, I did find it a little more difficult to work with in comparison with Most Sinful. Whites are notoriously difficult (at least in my opinion) and while this lends some of the best opacity and shine I've ever gotten out of a white polish (high-end or drugstore) it was a tiny bit on the thicker side. It wasn't unworkable, but extra care will definitely have to be taken for the average user in my opinion.

My Thoughts

The price, opacity and high-shine make this slightly difficult white worth giving a whirl. I look forward to using it again this summer (white polish trend!) as well as this winter! And yes, I did partially chose this one because of Brave (for those of you with little ones that still watch Disney films) and partially because I knew that if SinfulShine could produce an amazing white that, that would be the most impressive by far--at least to me.

Final Thoughts

All in all I'm very impressed with these polishes--especially for such budget-friendly drugstore options. As I mentioned, the white is definitely a bit tricky, but not so bad that you couldn't work with it and for the opacity and shine it may be worth it! Most Sinful is absolutely lovely and definitely one I can see a lot of people wanting both now and in the fall. Overall I'd say SinfulColors has done a nice job of creating a high-shine formula with a low-price appeal.

Did either of these polishes grab you? Will you be trying any of SinfulColors' SinfulShine polishes?

OCC Lip Tar and Stained Gloss Swatches and Review: Annika, Narcissus, Trollop, Meta, New Wave, Rhythm Box

Products in this review were provided by PR/the brand

Occ Lip Tars
Top Row L to R: Annika, Trollop, Narcissus
Bottom Row L to R: New Wave, Meta, Rhythm Box

*Note: LeCosmetique.com has generously given me a promo code: POP15 so you can get 15% off these lip tars and other products on their site!

I have been a long-time OCC lip tar fan. In fact, I believe I began reviewing them my first year of blogging! LeCosmetique.com, an online beauty supply retailer for pros, recently offered me the opportunity to review a handful of them for you and I jumped at the chance.

OCC Lip Tar Profile

For those of you that aren't familiar with OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics), it is a cruelty-free cosmetic company founded by David Klasfeld that offers a wide variety of cosmetics from lip tars (meant for the lips) to loose shadows; face products to polishes. I have tried a lot of their lip, eye and nail products and am a huge fan! I've been eyeing the OCC Skin Mini Sets for some time as I'd love to give those a try.

Anyway, OCC's lip tars are basically highly pigmented liquid lip stain-lipstick hybrids. They are incredibly great for those that want cruelty-free lip products and who love opaque coverage. I'm going to give you some quick application tips, details on the difference between the old and new tubes, and view of the mini brush that now comes with all lip tars after my review for those new to using them, so check that out below!

Lip tars with the original formula tend to have a bright, semi-matte finish, while the new Stained Gloss formulas have a nice squishy-gloss finish. Lip tars have a light peppermint scent, but no flavor.

Price

These are priced at $18 retail.

Where to Buy

These can be purchased at LeCosmetique as well as directly through OCC and other pro beauty supply companies and retailers.

Pro Discount

LeCosmetique.com offers a pro discount for pros at varying levels!

Note: For the purpose of swatching I never use liners or other prep products beyond a clear balm so that colors are true-to-color. My skin is incredibly sensitive and does NOT react adversely to lip tars, however, you can see that like it does with any straight matte formula, my lips tend to wrinkle when a hydrating lip liner is not applied underneath. Again, when I apply these as I normally would to wear them out my lips look full like they normally do, but with straight lip tars (this does not apply to the gloss formula) you can see my lips are slightly wrinkled. I do not edit my swatch pictures except to crop and watermark them so you get the full effect!

OCC Annika Lip Tar Swatch & Review

OCC Lip Tar Annika

Color

Annika is a pigmented, creamy apricot. Semi-matte finish.

Application

This applies like most original formula lip tars (see tips below).

My Thoughts

I really like this color and I think it's one that will appeal to both those that love color and those that are just branching out to try new colors.

Recommendations

I would pair this with a nice nude or peach lip liner to give it longer wear or consider playing around with some brighter color lip liners underneath to see what colors you can create.

OCC Narcissus Lip Tar Swatch & Review

OCC Lip Tar Narcissus

Color

Narcissus is a slightly lavender-leaning light pink. Semi-matte finish.

Application

This applies like all other original formula lip tars I've worked with (see application tips below).

My Thoughts

I love colors like this, so Narcissus is definitely a win for me! I love wearing colors like this in the winter! All the white around you (in New England) with a nice light color--magical!

Recommendations

This is a great color for those that want a lighter, more obvious lip color, but it could be played down by putting a slightly deeper pink lip liner underneath it or gloss over it.

OCC Trollop Lip Tar Swatch & Review

OCC Lip Tar Trollop

Color

Trollop is an orange-pink shade--it almost reminds me of the color you'd get if a papaya and a guava had a baby! This has a semi-matte finish.

Application

This applies like the rest (see tips on application below).

My Thoughts

I really like this color and I think it's fairly unique! Definitely gorgeous for summer.

Recommendations

You could definitely encourage this color to lean more orange or pink depending on the lip liner you choose. Personally, I love it as it is so I'd use a clear lip liner and clear gloss!

OCC Meta Stained Gloss Swatch & Review

OCC Lip Tar Stained Gloss Meta

Color

Meta is a slightly orange-toned red. This has a squishy gloss finish.

Application

This applies so smoothly and evenly.

My Thoughts

Love, love, love this new formula!!! Seriously, these Stained Glosses have literally blown me away and given how many lip products I purchase and swatch each year ... that says a lot! I love the finish, I love the consistency. I love everything! For those concerned about it (I don't mind either way), these do not have a tacky consistency. Texture-wise they remind me of a super light-weight, slick gel. Fabulous!

Recommendations

I love this alone and I can only imagine how absolutely fabulous it will be over a complementary lipstick. Cannot wait to give that a try!

OCC New Wave Stained Gloss Swatch & Review

OCC Lip Tar Stained Gloss New Wave

Color

New Wave is a beautifully bright pink. This has a squishy gloss finish.

Application

Absolutely lovely to work with like the other Stained Glosses! Goes on smooth and evens out quickly.

My Thoughts

I am in love! Pure and simple.

Recommendations

I love this on its own and will definitely wear it solo, but I would also suggest pairing it with both pink and red lipsticks!

OCC Rhythm Box Stained Gloss Swatch & Review

OCC Lip Tar Stained Gloss Rhythm Box

Color

Rhythm Box is a lovely raspberry. This has a squishy gloss finish.

Application

Super easy to work with and easy to achieve even coverage with on the lips.

My Thoughts

I thought this one might be a bit darker on the lips, but love that on its own it's a really lovely and fairly light raspberry.

Recommendations

This will look lovely and wearable on its own, but I'd also suggest pairing it with darker shades to give them a glossy depth.

Final Thoughts

I am as impressed with the original formula lip tars I reviewed here as I have been in the past. They are consistently some of the most opaque lip products I work with and find that with the right prep and products, the wear is phenomenal!

When it comes to the Stained Glosses ... there are no words! I absolutely adore everything about them from the finish to the color range. They are amazing and extremely unique in my opinion! I definitely need Jealous now.

LeCosmetique.com offers a full range of OCC Lip Tars and Stained Glosses. My experience with them has been amazing so far and I recommend checking out what they have to offer for OCC products as well as other pro brands!

OCC Lip Tar Tips & Tricks

If you're like me and hovering around 30 and beginning to notice slight changes in your skin, you may have to take some extra care in applying lip tars to get the most out of them. I have been using them for several years and have found that the following works best in achieving a lovely finished look:

  • Prep - Make sure you exfoliate and moisturize ahead of time as lip tars work best with a smooth, hydrated surface
  • Lip liner - I actually use a perimeter liner around the edges of my lips and fill my lips in. As you can see above, if you have super sensitive skin when it comes to hydration, lip tars may cause your lips to wrinkle a bit if they are applied directly to your lips. A nice creamy lip liner prevents this from happening, extends wear, and prevents bleeding/feathering.
  • Lip Brush - Generally, I am a fan of makeup brushes over anything else, but when it comes to lip tars I truly think they're a must. I know some people like to apply with their fingers, straight from the tube, etc., but consider trying a good lip brush first. I like a fairly firm paddle-style lip brush, personally. The one I used for my swatches above is made by Royal & Langnickel and I'll be reviewing it at a later time in a large series of brush posts I'll be posting later this summer.
  • Using the Right Amount - It is critical to not overload your lips. You'll want to use far more than you need to, but if you use a teeny bead on your lip brush and start from the inside and work your way out, you'll get amazing coverage. Keep in mind, you can always layer it on to achieve a more pigmented affect, so keep it minimal!
  • Staying Hydrated - A hydrating gloss over the original lip tars can help your lips to stay hydrated. I also find that as the day progresses, my lips begin to feel a bit dehydrated. By patting on a little clear balm over my lips I can instantly re-hydrate them through the lip tar. I love EOS and find it works well for this purpose.
  • Shake It Up! - Lip tars do separate over time, but if you shake them up they mix back up perfectly (I have some over 2 years old that are still great when re-mixed).

This is literally all you need to do your lips! This teeny bead on the tip of my lip brush is enough to give you one layer of ample coverage.

Old Lip Tar Tube vs. New Lip Tar Tube

If you've been following OCC for some time, you know they switched lip tar tubes not too long ago.

L to R: New Lip Tar tube, Old Lip Tar tube

Major Differences:
  • The tip is different. On the new it has a long, thin tip similar to Napoleon Perdis Lip Lacquers. The old tube had more of a typical slanted tip like what you'd see on a lip balm.
  • Control. The control you get with the new tip is far better! It is so easy to apply the right amount to your lip brush--love it!

Note: The same amount of product comes in both tubes.

The Itty Bitty OCC Lip Brush

I think the OCC lip brush is adorable! Seriously, so cute! But it's not what I personally recommend for applying lip tars unless you're in a pinch. It's super teeny so it can make getting even coverage a bit more tricky. If you don't have a covered or retractable lip brush ... run out and get one! Or you can keep this with you and try to work with it. Personally, I think it's more novel than anything ;) Or again, good in an absolute pinch!

Top to Bottom: Standard lip brush vs OCC mini lip brush

I know it doesn't look insanely different, but trust me, a standard sized lip brush is significantly larger than the mini one the lip tars come with. It's a lovely gesture and so adorable, but I like larger lip brushes personally. You may like it though, you never know!

Fortune Cookie Soap Christmas in July Haul

Products in this post were purchased by me

If you follow me on any of my social media accounts (twitter, facebook or instagram) you've probably seen me rave over Fortune Cookie Soap for quite a long time. I currently subscribe to their amazing Soap Box (which comes out quarterly and offers a fun selection of upcoming seasonal goodies) and regularly shop the limited edition and regular products. I tend to buy a lot of the OCD sanitizer they do (which is fabulous if you have immune issues like we do in our household) as it is the only sanitizer I've ever come across that doesn't destroy my sensitive skin with use (yay glycerin!). Even Patrick brings OCD to work, though I tend to send him with hilarious new scents (preferably with naughty innuendos)--the men and women in his office die over them! Can I just say ... Harry Potter Collection = epic. If you missed it, be sad!

Recently they had their exciting Christmas in July one-day sale. I jumped at the chance to purchase and walked away with some super fun treats I thought I'd share with you guys! Let me preface this by saying two things: a. Fortune Cookie Soap is a household favorite here and everyone from my little guys to Patrick get excited when boxes arrive and b. I am a huge fan of "naughty" names--seriously, my sense of humor just can't resist them. So, if you find PG sexual innuendos offensive, probably best not to continue as one name may be offensive to you. Just a heads up as I don't want anyone to come across something that may offend them.

Also, excuse the gray-lighting! We're having insane storms up here and the lighting is so insanely bad.

Fortune Cookie Soap Christmas in July Soaps

I love their soaps--seriously! I think my all-time favorite so far has been a tie between Lemon Zing (naturally scented!) and Green Goat's Gruff (which I sadly don't see on the site and may cry over if it's no longer available). I usually use the soaps in the bathroom downstairs that those visiting use most often--always a hit with guests! The kids love using them ... and so do the adults here ;) I will try my best to describe the scents for each, but don't hold me to it.

Snow One Like You

Fortune Cookie Soap "Snow One Like You"

Scent

This was an interesting scent. I want to say there was something citrus in it and perhaps something cool/crisp (cucumber or a flower) along with something slightly spicey? I may be WAY off, but there's my best effort.

Bah! Humbug!

Fortune Cookie Soap "Bah! Humbug!"

Scent

This neon soap smelled so tropically fruity--think mangoes! It reminded me of the tropical flavored Dentyne gum they put out sometimes. Yum!

Nice Package

Fortune Cookie Soap "Nice Package"

Scent

This one is so yummy smelling it's ridiculous! It's a mix or chocolate or brownie and caramel/toffee/hazelnut? Something along those lines. It's delicious, trust me!

Just Add Snow

Fortune Cookie Soap "Just Add Snow"

Scent

This sparkly one had such a lovely holiday smell! It reminded me of sweet cinnamon apples and Christmas tree! So lovely!

OCD Sanitizers in "In the Loop" and "Where the Sun Don't Shine"

L to R: OCD in "In the Loop" and OCD in "Where the Sun Don't Shine"

"In the Loop" Scent

You know that sweet kick in the face the second you open up a bag of Fruit Loops (not something I got to experience often since sugary cereals were off-limits when I was a kid ... but not at friends houses!)? That is EXACTLY what this smells like. You'll want to eat your hands ... or at least lick them! This is a family favorite and one we purchase regularly. In fact, the second we run out I reorder! Try it!

"Where The Sun Don't Shine" Scent

This is a lovely banana smell, but it's smooth and almost banana cream-esque? Very nice!

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned above, I'm obviously a big Fortune Cookie Soap fan! I'm totally happy with this purchase and know once I let the kids see (and Patrick since I had to hide this from them so I could get pics) that they're going to want to use/smell everything immediately. If you've never given them a try I highly recommend it. A lot of the products are free of unsavory things we try to avoid and some of them are even naturally scented with essential oils. For me, this haul was a win! If you grab anything from them, let me know what you think! If you only purchased one thing I'd suggest the OCD "In the Loop" sanitizer--amazing!

Oh and might I add that this shipped super fast? As in, was at my doorstep within a day or two!

Zoya Pixies Fall 2013 Swatches and Review

Products in this review were provided by PR/the brand

I have a confession to make! I absolutely adore fall, but fall beauty (with the exception of face and lip products) are not my favorite by any means. Why, you ask? I'm just not a dark colors person when it comes to anything but shadows and liners. Fall is almost always dark jewel tones and it's just not my favorite thing--I'm more of a brights fan. So, when I first saw the new Zoya pixies I thought, "Pretty, but probably not going to be my faves." I say this in earnest because I like to keep things honest with you guys--boy was I wrong!

These are priced at $9 retail each.

Zoya Pixie Arabella Swatches & Review

Color

Arabella is a textured berry

Application

Application on this was lovely and it dried at the same speed I've found most of these to dry at. Just make sure you allow time between coats to preventing denting after. This was fully opaque with 2 coats for me.

My Thoughts

This one is nice and the formula is easy to work with, but of all the colors it is the only one I wasn't blown away by as I think it's the least unique of the bunch.

Zoya Pixie Carter Swatch & Review

Color

Carter has a gray-purple base with brilliant purple glitter.

Application

This one was the odd-man-out formula-wise. All of my other ones (except Tomoko) were very thick and offered extreme control. This one was significantly thinner, though not difficult to work with. This one was mostly opaque with 2 coats.

My Thoughts

This was absolutely my favorite in the bottle and still a favorite on my nails, though the thinner formula kept it from being my absolute favorite.

Zoya Pixie Chita Swatch & Review

Color

Chita has a spruce-green base with gold glitter.

Application

Absolutely love the formula on this! Nice and thick (in a good way) and maximum control. Fully opaque in 2 coats (you could get away with 1 thick coat).

My Thoughts

This was absolutely one of my surprise favorites of the bunch! The formula was excellent and the finished look reminded me of a Christmas tree--love it! And I'm not generally a dark green fan (despite green being my favorite color).

Zoya Pixie Dhara Swatch & Review

Color

Dhara has a bright pumpkin-orange base with gold glitter.

Application

This was as easy to work with as Chita--very good. Fully opaque in 2 coats.

My Thoughts

This one is really nice to work with and pretty, but between already having Beatrix and Destiny in the mix I would have rather had a different color.

Zoya Pixie Sunshine Swatch & Review

Color

Sunshine has a lovely denim-blue base with silver glitter.

Application

This had a lovely application like the other thicker formulas in this batch. Fully opaque in 2 coats (you could get away with 1 thick coat).

My Thoughts

I really, really like this one. It reminds me of sparkly denim once on the nail and I definitely plan to wear it this fall. The one thing I'm unsure of is the name. Sunshine sounds like an orange or yellow to me ;)

Zoya Pixie Tomoko Swatch & Review

Color

A delicate champagne base with complementary glitter.

Application

This was the second-thinnest formula in the bunch and was not fully opaque in 2 coats.

My Thoughts

Despite not being opaque and being a softer color I actually really liked it and can see myself wearing it this fall and perhaps even at a more formal event.

Final Thoughts

I like this collection far more than I expected to and with the exception of Carter, the formulas are incredibly easy to work with and offer amazing control. I think my favorites from the bunch are Sunshine, Dhara, Tomoko and Carter overall.

Will you be trying any of these new fall Pixies?

Mint Manis in Celebration of Talia Joy Castellano #mintmanisfortaliajoy

The beauty world is in mourning :(

You've probably noticed that quite a few bloggers are featuring mint manis on their blogs today. This is our small way of acknowledging and celebrating the life of Talia Joy Castellano, who passed away earlier this week. She was inspiring, to say the least, and I know the impact she's made on this world will not soon fade. If you'd like to participate in this tribute to Talia, share your mint mani with #mintmanisfortaliajoy on your blogs, social networks, etc.

If you've never watched any of Talia's YT videos her account can be found HERE. Her spirit was infectious and bright. I'm thankful she's no longer in pain and finally experiencing the peace she deserves, but she will be desperately missed.

Here are some of the other fabulous bloggers involved in today's tribute to Talia (and a big thank-you to Nicole of Nail Polish Wars for organizing this)...

Review & Giveaway! Bain de Terre Review - Passion Flower, Jasmine and Green Meadow

Products in this review/giveaway were provided by PR/the brand

Bain de Terre Giveaway!

Bain de Terre has generously offered my lovely readers a giveaway for my favorite products (see my review below)! This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only because of the nature of the products offered as the prize.

If you've followed me for a while you know I have a love/hate relationship with my hair. I love that it's different, but I hate that it's so darn needy! Just to give you an idea (in case this is your first time on my blog), my hair is black, but it's also extremely, extremely thick and very textured (I'm half-Japanese and then primarily Italian on the other side so you can imagine). It is not super straight and it does what it wants when it wants to do it. It also gets very dry if I don't treat it right. In fact, caring for my hair (along with finding the right hairdressers) has been a major part of my life since I was pretty darn little. It's hard! Needless to say, I am constantly on the look out for new hair care products that work for me, which is why I jumped at the chance to give several Bain de Terre hair care lines a try.

If you're unfamiliar with Bain de Terre, their hair care line is more of the high-end salon persuasion. Their products are paraben-free (something I look for) and include a number of natural ingredients to help promote hair health. I had the pleasure of reviewing 3 of their product lines: Passion Flower, Jasmine, and Green Meadow.

Price Range

The prices I saw online ranged from around $11.99 to $15.99 per product.

Where to Buy

Bain de Terre products are sold at a number of high-end salons and pro beauty supply stores (including Ulta). To find a salon or website visit HERE.

Bain de Terre Passion Flower Review

Bain de Terre Passion Flower Hair Care

Products

The Passion Flower line includes a shampoo, conditioner, styling oil, finishing spray.

Best For

This line is made for color-treated hair (though I regularly use products for color-treated hair even when my hair is virgin hair as I find them moisturizing and gentle).

Scent

Light floral

Ease of Use

I found all of these products easy to work with. The shampoo lathered well, the conditioner smoothed in and rinsed well, the styling oil was easy to apply and did make styling easier, and the finishing spray held well.

My Thoughts

I really liked this line! The scent isn't over-powering and everything in this line worked well for me. Of the 3 lines I tried, this was one of my favorites (and one I'm still using now). I know this is technically for color-treated hair, but I have always used products for color-treated hair even during periods when I've had virgin hair because they tend to be so gentle and moisturizing. The styling oil worked really well to help keep my hair smooth and it was noticeably less frizzy with use (a big issue for my textured hair). I found this entire line made my hair more manageable, softer and my hair responded well to it.

Bain de Terre Jasmine Review

Bain de Terre Jasmine shampoo and conditioner

Bain de Terre 2-Minute Intense Conditioner

Bain de Terre Blow Dry Smoothing Cream

Products

The Jasmine line includes a shampoo, conditioner, intense conditioner, smoothing cream.

Best For

This line is made to moisturize dry hair.

Scent

Light floral

Ease of Use

I found all of these products easy to work with. The shampoo lathered well, the conditioner smoothed in and rinsed well, the intense conditioner was easy to apply and rinse, and the smoothing cream applied easily to my hair while wet.

My Thoughts

This was definitely my other favorite from the 3 lines I tried! My hair gets dry so easily and being super textured, I need moisturizing, smoothing hair products. I definitely saw a difference when using these products, especially with the addition of the 2-Minute Intense Conditioner and Smoothing Cream. When using a blow dryer to style, I found my hair was smoother and softer after use of all 4 products. Definitely a fan of these!

Bain de Terre Green Meadow Review

Bain de Terre Green Meadow shampoo and conditioner

Bain de Terre Green Meadow detangler

Products

The Green Meadow line includes a shampoo, conditioner, spray-in detangler.

Best For

This line is a balancing formula made for normal to oily hair.

Scent

Clean and fresh

Ease of Use

All of these products were easy to use and very straight-forward in their application.

My Thoughts

This was the only line that didn't really work for me, but given that it's for normal to oily hair, it really isn't suited for my dry, textured hair. I think someone with normal to oily hair might find this line works well for them, but for me I didn't find it hydrating enough on its own. I did, however, like using the spray-in detangler after water-related activities such as swimming or even after getting stuck out in the rain as my hair tends to tangle really badly and get super dry and spraying a few sprays of the detangler into my hair then brushing made a big difference.

Final Thoughts

I am really impressed with Bain de Terre and I love that their formulas are paraben-free as I try to avoid them as much as possible. I had really good luck with 2 of the 3 lines I tried and have continued to rotate many of these products into my personal hair care routine. I think that of all the products I tried, the Jasmine shampoo and 2-minute intense conditioner and Passion Flower styling oil were my favorites!

R.I.P. Talia

I was just sitting at my computer getting some work done when I flipped over to Facebook and saw the status on Talia's page--I make a habit of checking it daily. It made me cry. For such a young girl ... a child ... to have gone through what she's gone through it sad enough. For her to have passed away at such a young age is ... overwhelmingly heartbreaking.

I'm thankful that she is no longer in pain and that she is in peace. But as a parent I am overtaken by the extreme sadness that her passing has caused for her family.

My husband and I had the pleasure of sending her a package last year and I remember crying as I wrote her a letter expressing how incredibly impressed we were with her--her skills, her joy, her strength.
As someone that has gone through and is going through different things with our own children, I can only try to imagine the daily struggles Talia's family has faced. The daily struggles Talia shouldered with such grace and exuberance.

We were fortunate to have had Talia's presence on this earth at all. And while I'm insanely sad it was cut so short, I KNOW that she has been and will be an incredible inspiration to so many--myself included.

R.I.P. Talia, you were and are such a beautiful little angel.

Make Up For Ever Face & Body Liquid Makeup #32 Review

Shade

#32 is called Alabaster Beige. According to Sephora's product page this shade is made for light skin tones with yellow undertones. I think this is better suited for light-medium skin tones than light skin tones. The tone of this shade is very nice. It's not super yellow and has a nice beige hue. I think for me, #32 is a tiny bit too light right now and #34 (Honey Beige) would be a closer match for summer. You can see Make Up For Ever's full range of shades HERE

mufe face and body 32 review
This is swatched on the underside of my arm, which is significantly lighter than the rest of my arm and my face, so that you can see the shade. As you can see, it's not a super light color, but it is what I'd consider to be a light-medium. You can see how this shade worked on my face below.

Application

This applied really nicely and easily smoothed into my skin. Consistency-wise it is a tiny bit thinner than some I've worked with, but thicker than some of the thinnest ones. It's not runny, but not extremely thick--if that's helpful.

Coverage

Coverage is meant to be light, and while it does provide light coverage, it effectively evened out the appearance of the entire surface of my face. I did find that with slightly heavier application in precise spots (like the redness around my nose) I was able to get slightly more coverage, but keep in mind this is not meant to be a medium- or full-coverage foundation. Things such as dark beauty marks will show through with regular application. This is the type of foundation I personally like best for summer.

Finish

This has a slightly dewy finish, so if you want a completely matte finish you'll want to mattify it. I personally like a dewy finish for summer so I love the way this sets.

Wear

This wore really well for me. It is very light-weight and not uncomfortable in any way. The one thing I will say I wasn't overly thrilled with is the scent. I really dislike scents in foundations, personally. Thankfully, once dry the scent is very subtle, but keep in mind the scent was pretty strong to my sensitive nose during application. This foundation did not crack around my nose, which is sometimes a problem for me. It didn't overly cling to my dry trouble-spots as much as many foundations I've tried either.

Now for the moment of truth...

beautypopstop face
Make Up For Ever Face and Body Liquid Foundation in #32.
This blended flawlessly into my skin with a foundation brush, making it easier to make it work for me despite being a hair lighter than I would normally go right now for a perfect match. As always, these photos have not been edited in an way aside from being cropped and watermarked so you can see how this really performs.

beautypopstop how to
Here's another shot for good measure so you can see how it looks from another angle. I'm actually wearing MUFE Smoky Extravagant mascara in these shots as well! I recently reviewed it HERE. I'm also wearing a light application of Tarte Tipsy, Mirenesse Airbrush Soft Focus Blush Highlighter in Nude Camelia, matte bronzer for contour, and Mirenesse 27 hr Inside Out Kohl in Osiris.

Final Thoughts

I really like the overall effect of this foundation; for having such light coverage it really does give you a super even appearance once applied. I also love how easy it was to work with! As I mentioned above, the shade is really complementary, despite being a little light for my face right now. The only down-side to me is the fragrance. Perhaps MUFE will release an unscented version in the future! The scent is definitely heavier while wet and more subtle once dry. If you're not sensitive you may not notice it. The price is very comparable to many high-end foundations I have used and reviewed, so that's also great for those looking for foundations in this price-range. This foundation does contain parabens and I know for some that's problematic, but if it's not then definitely consider giving this a try!

Overall, I am incredibly impressed by how effective this foundation is while offering light-weight coverage. Really! How has MUFE created something that is both semi-sheer, but complexion even-ing?! Magical! I definitely think this is a great product for those that don't want or need heavier coverage and it is absolutely a great summer foundation.

Have you tried Make Up For Ever Face and Body Foundation? If not, will you be?
